Cette contribution se base sur la recherche sur deux grands personnages de l´ordre dominicain et de l´exegu?se catholique, notamment M.-J. Lagrange et V. Zapletal. Ils n´ont pas entretenu de contact personnel direct. Pourtant, dans les années 1897-9, pour des raisons et dans des situations bien différentes, ils ont en toute indépendance adressé au maître de l´ordre dominicain leurs propos portant sur le mode de l´engagement de l´ordre dans le monde académique, sur la mani?re dont il aurait ? développerson charisme originel. On peut constater que ces deux visions ont vu le jour par hasard, forcés ou provoqués par les circonstances qui ont donné aux protagonistes l´impulse pour saisir le stylo, formuler leurs pensées et les faire parvenir au supérieur de l´ordre. Il s´agit d´intuitions de dominicains ingénieux et éduqués qui en connaissant bien les probl?mes de l´église et de la société de son époque cherchaient les voies ? prendre pour l´ordre et l´église dans l´avenir.

The author compares in his study a vision of two great men of the Dominican Order and the Catholic exegesis at the turn of the 20th century regarding the engagement of their Order in the academic world. Both of them - Lagrange as the founder of the Ecolebiblique française in Jerusalem and Zapletal as the Old Testament Exegesis Professor at the Fribourg University in the Switzerland - came independently to similar proposals addressed to the highest superiors of their Order that emphasised the importanceof the Universities for the future as well as the necessity for the Dominicans to promote with vigour the development of the Catholic schools and Universities and to enter the Universities run by the government.
