Consolation through story : Comenius's Labyrinth as Narrative Therapy
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In this study we will examine the way in which Jan Amos Comenius accomplished his purpose of consolation in The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart. Comenius wrote a number of consolation works, but we will focus only on this one, for two reasons. First, time has proven The Labyrinth to have surpassed Comenius's other works in a unique way, and not only in his own day. The fame and popularity that The Labyrinth has enjoyed throughout the centuries-among the general public as well as among professional-shows how truly Comenius was able to communicate his comforting purpose. The question arises: Why exactly The Labyrinth? Wherein does its "magic", its therapeutic strength lie? The second reason is closely tied to the first: The Labyrinthis the only one of Comenius's works that was written in a narrative form. His other works were mostly written as treatises, but The Labyrinth is a story. I am convinced that its unique (therapeutic) potential for consolation lies in this
