This scientific publication concentrates on the rehabilitation of adults with visual impairment. It assumes a position towards the development and current situation of vision rehabilitation of persons with low vision. Based on the comparison of situation in other countries, this study points to opportunities and needs for further development of vision rehabilitation in the Czech Republic. A particular attention is focused on visual and reading skills development strategies. The author introduced an innovative rehabilitation programme 'Increasing visual performance in reading'. The research, which is a crucial part of the book, deals in detail with the topic of support of maintaining and increasing reading performance through the use of innovative rehabilitation progamme. The results confirmed the high importance of the innovative rehabilitation programme in all its components (reading rate, reading accuracy and reading comprehension). Also the impact of intervening variables (visual acuity, age, level of reading experience and activity) on the level of increase in visual performance due to the completion of rehabilitation programme was monitored. The evaluation of research data brings findings of methodological and educational character in connection with the use of modern educational strategies and resources.
