Network topology discovery is a useful process for obtaining information about the interconnection of elements in the computer network. The resulting network map is then visualized in order to be presented to the user (network administrator). There are many established tools supporting this process in different types of networks. However, these tools do not respect the geographic coordinates of elements in the network map (as they are usually unknown) making the nodes poorly arranged in the map. Manualre-arrangement of the nodes is often required. In this paper, we present a new method of automated localization of network elements (specifically wireless access points) using their identifiers and utilizing public databases and/or services. The method also uses the suitable way of visualization that respects position of nodes and provides well-arranged map of the entire network. This method is focused on wireless metropolitan area networks and is particularly useful in self-built networ
