Since the Middle Ages, the town of Hradčany played the role of material and personal base for the ruler of the Czech lands and his court. Major reorganization in the composition of this area’s property ownership concurred with a large-scale fire in 1541. Based on the analysis of primary archaeological and archival sources, as well as the architectural history of the existing buildings, the urban transformation of Hradčany is demonstrated using concrete examples. The implementation of archaeological sources makes it possible to reconsider this view and to re-imagine the space in the late Middle Ages and early modern period.
