Women and academic careers in Central and Eastern Europe after the second World War (1945–1968). Symposium of the 26th International Congress of History of Science and Technology
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The proposed symposium aims to uncover and research the changes in opportunities for female scientists after the Second World War in Central and Eastern Europe. Especially Central and Eastern European countries fundamentally changed their research policies and the newly established scientific institutions centered in the Academy of Sciences broadened the possibilities for a post-World War II academic career for women. The symposium aims to analyze the discourse in the academic community concerning the role of female scientists at universities and other academic institutions which presented more academic opportunities for a new generation of scientists, especially for women. The Communist takeover and the desire to create new and numerous scientific institutions centered in the Academy of Sciences opened up new opportunities for young professionals and women were admitted to academic positions.
