The study deals with the development of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in terms of the methods used. The roots of these methods (e.g. working in large teams) were based on the experience gained by the founding generation of the Institute during the Second World War in industrial research. The orientation towards the practical application of results contributed to the great success of the Institute after the establishment of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1952.
