Die neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien, allen voran die mit dem World-Wide-Web verbundenen "Dienste" stellen neuartige Möglichkeiten für den Lernenden wie für den Lehrenden bereit, vor allem durch die Merkmale der Interaktivität, der Sequenzialität, der Simulationsfähigkeit, der Multimedialität, des universellen Zugangs, der Aktualität des Inhalts und der breiten Verfügbarkeit. Inzwischen sind aber auch die Schwächen bekannt, die sich mit e-Learning verbinden: Mangel an direktem menschlichen Kontakt, hohe Anforderungen an die technische Infrastruktur, vorausgesetzte hohe Eigenverantwortung und Selbstdisziplin, asynchrone Kommunikation, Anonymität der Teilnehmenden. Und genau das verbindet die Beiträge: sie verdeutlichen Potenziale, weisen Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten auf und kennzeichnen Einsatzbedingugen. Zugleich werden Barrieren, Hemnisse usw. sichtbar gemacht, die als Aufforderung für weitere Denkbemühungen zu verstehen sind.

New information and communication technologies present new opportunities of education for students and also for their teachers, primarily with their interactvity, sequentionality, ability of simulation, multimediality, with universal approachability, content topicality and with their wide availability. The use of ICT in the educational process has also some deficits - the lack of personal contact, high demands on technical infrastucture, asynchronous communication, anonymity of participants, it assumesthe high level of responsibility and selfdiscipline and right these different aspects of e-learning use connect all the articles: the authors try to clarify the potential of e-learning, point out the possible ways of its development and determine the conditions of its application. At the same time, the barries of the further development of e-learning are there described and discussed.
