First, the contribution discusses three minor discrepancies in Thucydides’ books IV-V and VIII. Then, it investigates in greater detail Thucydides’ report on the relationship of Athens and Sparta in 420 BCE, and the historian’s opinion about Pericles and the Sicilian expedition. It is claimed that either Thucydides stopped writing before he managed to incorporate some elucidations, or he expected far too much from his readers.
