The participants of this workshop argue for a representational version of the semantic conception of scientific theories. By this way, scientific theories can be characterized as sets or families of models. The representational semantic conception of theories is sharply distinguished from older structural versions that assume a further identity of ‘models’ and ‘structures,’ which proponents of representational version reject. They try to show models are instead representations – which may on occasion apply via structural means but are never constituted by them.
