Social and environmental conflicts or sustainable development? Positive alarmism
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The article deals with an up-to-date global topic of mutually interlinked social and environmental conflicts and their possible resolutions, while most of analyses separate these two thematic spheres. It addresses the issue from the points of view of social philosophy and civilizational studies. First, it articulates the main ideas of the problematic historical dialectic of Western civilization by an analysis of classic authors linked to the theme. Second, it focuses on the whole human civilization as well. The sceptical critique of the historical and current development of the civilization(s) can be a contribution to, first, a positive alarmism (in contrast to an ordinary alarmism) which, second, can be reformulated by more developed and sophisticated contemporary analyses. Third, the article analyses a necessary transition from a monological civilizational paradigm to the specific intersubjective paradigm of relations among human beings and the nature in the contemporary context of global interactions in order to overcome the problematic aspects of the civilization(s). After the publication of the original English version of the text, a translation of the article was republished on the request of the Slovak Academy of Sciences: Od sociálních a environmentálních konfliktů k pozitivnímu alarmismu (Filozofia. Vol 74, No. 5 (2019), pp. 366-377. ISSN 0046-385X). A deeper and proper understanding of the article requires its understanding as the leading paper of the journal thematic issue on social and environmental conflicts in relation to sustainable development. The article’s author Marek Hrubec is also an author of a concept of the thematic issue and its guest editor: Hrubec, Marek (ed.), Desenvolvimento sustentável? Conflitos sociais e ambientais. Civitas [Sustainable development? Social and environmental conflicts. Civitas] Vol. 19, No. 2, 2019 (http://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/civitas/issue/view/1330). The publication of the article with the thematic issue in a high-quality academic journal in Brazil aims to stress the importance of the Amazon Tropical Rainforest which is crucial for the global environment. Marek Hrubec’s article plays its double role both independently and also in the context of the international special thematic issue.
