In my response to Pirmin Stekeler’s essay, I begin with his idea of secondary questions in philosophy and consider some that Russell raises in his critique of Hegel and his logical analysis. On this basis, I identify the secondary nature of Russell’s questions with his inability to see the deeper, speculative layer of his mathematical logic in sentences such as “language is lying”. In analyzing what their adequate logical treatment should look like, I identify the speculative turn in philosophy by means of Stekeler’s idea of “full language”, with several suggestions as to what its form should be.
