Františka Plamínková fue feminista, laicista y socialista checoslovaca con mucho prestigio internaci-onal. A pesar de eso, la dictadura conservadora de Miguel Primo de Rivera la invitó a España. El ob-jetivo de este artículo es analizar los motivos del dictador, las razones por las que su visita fue bien acogida por las activistas católicas españolas y las consecuencias (o no) que tuvieron las críticas in-ternacionales que estas recibieron por no poner en entredicho la legitimidad de las ideas de Pla-mínková. Para realizar esta investigación se utilizaron principalmente fuentes españolas, checoslo-vacas y estadounidenses, sobre todo hemerográficas, pero también archivísticas. A través de un tratamiento cualitativo de estas fuentes se analiza no solo su visita a España, sino sus consecuen-cias, pues esta abrió un periodo de reflexión sobre el alcance e influencia que el socialismo tenía en las organizaciones de mujeres europeas, así como sobre cuál era la mejor estrategia que las católi-cas podían seguir para combatirlo. Los resultados más importantes de la investigación son la con-statación de que las activistas católicas españolas dialogaron con las mujeres de otras culturas políti-cas durante la dictadura de Primo de Rivera y de que estas no se plegaron ante las críticas de las católicas extranjeras.

Františka Plamínková was a highly esteemed Czechoslovak feminist, secularist, and an internationa-lly renowned socialist. Despite this, the conservative dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera invited her to Spain. The objective of this article is to analyse the dictator’s motives, the reasons why her visit was well received by Spanish Catholic activists, and the consequences (or lack thereof) of the international criticism these activists faced for not challenging Plamínková’s ideas. This investigation primarily utilised Spanish, Czechoslovak, and American sources, mainly newspapers, but also ar-chival materials. Through a qualitative analysis of these sources, the article examines not only her visit to Spain but also its aftermath, as it initiated a period of reflection on the extent and influence of socialism within European women’s organisations, and on the best strategies for Catholic women to counteract it. The most significant findings of the research are the confirmation that Spanish Cat-holic activists engaged in dialogue with women from other political cultures during Primo de Rive-ra’s dictatorship, and that they did not capitulate to the criticism from foreign Catholics.
