For a set of selected typical dental alloys the two MR-relevant parameters, magnetic susceptibility and electric conductivity, were evaluated. To determine the magnetic susceptibility, short-TE (TE=4.36ms) gradient echo images were measured and the unwrapped phase images fitted to numerically modelled data. Such a comparison was performed in order to provide dentists and dental alloy producers with indications about the significant differences between various materials, some of which may considerably limit the eligibility of a patient for some MR examinations of the head.
