Perception of national stereotypes from an ingroup and outgroup perspective
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In our research, we aimed at identifying the content of Czech national auto- and heterostereotypes in the Czech Republic and its four neighboring countries ? Germany, Austria, Poland, and Slovakia. Furthermore, we compared the Czech auto- and heterostereotypes to determine whether they converge across different countries. The five-factor model of personality was used as a framework for describing the national stereotypes on scales of National Character Survey (NCS, Terraccino et al., 2005). Data were sampled in the border regions of the Czech Republic and the four neighboring countries. We found a complex pattern of convergence between the Czech national auto- and heterostereotypes in the five Central European Countries. Researching an ingroup and outgroup perspective in representing citizens of a given country might contribute to a better understanding and possible improvements of intergroup relations especially in the areas of frequent contacts ? the border regions.
