National auto- and heterostereotypes in relation to personality traits in five central European countries
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The five-factor model of personality was used as a framework for describing auto- and heterostereotypes of Czechs, Austrians, Germans, Slovaks, and Poles. Altogether, 5,650 students from the five countries rated a typical representative of their own andfour neighboring countries on National Character Survey (NCS). We wanted to determine whether: 1) autostereotypes are stable in time; 2) heterostereotypes correspond across nations under study; 3) national autostereotypes correspond with heterosterotypes, 4) national auto- and heterosterotypes reflect mean personality traits. Results suggest that 1) national autostereotypes are stable in time; 2) national heterostereotype profiles converge. 3) National autostereotypes converge with heterostereotypes just in case of a typical German. 4) We compared auto- and heterostereotypes of Czechs and Germans with mean self-rating on the NEO-PI-R in the same culture. We found out no agreement between autostereotypes and assessed personality traits.
