Mikulčice zeichnete sich im 9. Jahrhundert durch eine bemerkenswerte Anzahl von Kirchen aus, es handelt sich um mindestens zehn Bauten. Die Kirchen spiegeln vor allem eine große politische Machtkonzentration an Ort und Stelle wider. Das Christentum war die neue Ideologie des soeben entstandenen großmährischen Staates, und die Kirchen repräsentierten die Macht, die Selbständigkeit sowie den Glauben der Herrscherdynastie der Mojmíriden, die in Mikulčice wahrscheinlich ihre Hauptresidenz hatte.

Mikulčice in the 9th century was notable for its unusually large number of churches. There were at least ten. The churches reflected above all a huge concentration of political power in the town. Christianity was a new ideology of the state of Greater Moravia, which had itself recently come into being, and the churches represented the power, independence and faith of the ruling dynasty of the Mojmírs, who probably had their principal residence in Mikulčice.
