The publication comes as a follow-up of some previously published works resulting from the cooperation of geographers in various countries (Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Hungary, Belarus, Czech Republic) and concerning the issue of man-nature relations. The most recent of these publications are ?Nature use in different conditions of human impact? (2000), ?Man and landscape? (2001), and ?Regional aspects of land use? (2002). This publication was prepared in the cooperation between the of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin (Poland) and the Institute of Geonics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Branch Brno (Czech Republic) under the patronage the Faculty of Earth Sciences, University of Silesia, Sosnowiec (Poland). Individual contributions were supplied by experts from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine.
