Dendrochronological records of the floodplain morphology transformation of Desná river valley in the last 150 years, The Hrubý Jeseník Mts., Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
A system of palaeochannels was found covered with trees within the floodplain of the Desná River Valley. During some of the last floods new erosion channels were formed and gradually overgrown by forests. Trees were wounded or even killed by transportedboulders, gravels or ice floes. Therefore ring reductions and abrupt growth release occur in tree stems. Eight cores and two root samples from trees growing on floodplain were taken for investigation of the palaeochannel origin and occurring flood and erosion event. Results of the dendrochronological investigation were compared with the historical and hydrological data. Results of these analyses show that the palaeochannel system was probably formed during the great flood in 1897. Morphology of palaeochannels was changed during the floods in 1921 when a lot of trees were killed and abrupt growth release occurred in the survived tree stems. Tree ring reductions occurred after floods in the 1938 and 1947.
