This study is an assessment of the National Action Plan for Employment for the period 2004-2006 of the Czech Republic from the gender perspective. It puts active employment policy of the Czech Republic in this time frame into the economic, employment andpolicy context of the gender relations on the labour market and into the European employment policy context. The main argument is that gender mainstreaming is not applied in the NAP 2004-2006. Only general objectives are established for gender equalityissues ? closing gender gaps and combating discriminatory behaviour of employers ? without policies for their fulfilment. There is no estimate for targets or resources, and the gender impact of social policies and changes can only be conjectured. A lackof policies and measures relating to the generally established objectives runs throughout the entire NAPemp, and even the section on gender equality is affected by this void.
