The main aim of the reviewed book is to provide a theory about how democracies work; and how they secure the policy representation of their citizens. The point of the departure is a rejection of the traditional view of representation based on the congruence of voters? preferences and those of parties in single elections. The authors claim that representation is a continuous process taking place over a series of elections. It makes sense to approach representation only in the medium to long-term perspective, otherwise it misses the point
