On Friday, 21 June 2019, the town Soběslav celebrated the 140th anniversary of the birth of Otakar Ostrčil (1879–1935). The ceremony included the unveiling of a bust in a park, the opening of an exhibition at the Soběslav Museum, and a concert. The event attracted the attention of many of the town’s residents. The level of institutional and public interest generated by the anniversary in this South Bohemian municipality of a few thousand inhabitants contrasts with the relative lack of attention devoted to the composer by Prague’s cultural institutions.
