Karel Klostermann (1848 – 1923). Der Titel „Dichter der Šumava“ haftet ihm an. Aber Karel Klostermann ist mehr. Er ist ein kulturelles und literarisches Phänomen. Karel Klostermann gab den Anstoß zur Entwicklung des Massentourismus. Er beeinflusste die Nationalisierung der Peripherie und den Buchmarkt, der bereits zu seiner Zeit auf Profit ausgerichtet war. Karel Klostermann ist in diesem Buch keine Konstante der Literaturgeschichte. Die fest verankerten Etiketten „Zeuge des Untergangs des alten Böhmerwaldes“ oder „Apostel der Versöhnung zwischen Tschechen und Deutschen“ werden in Frage gestellt.

Karel Klostermann stood at the birth of mass tourism and the nationalization of border areas, and he shaped the book market, which was already profit-oriented in his time. In this book, Karel Klostermann is not a constant in literary history. The established labels of „witness to the demise of the old Šumava“ or „apostle of reconciliation between Czechs and Germans“ are questioned.
