This chapter analyzes popular feature films from Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia for gendered economic imaginaries – that is, the ideas, expectations, and possibilities for men and women’s activities on the free market in early postsocialist societies. It argues that these films expose some of the similarities, but also divergences in Central and Eastern European understandings of the roles and opportunities available to men and women in a market economy.
