In the second half of the 20th century there was significant decrease of volume of freight and passengers transported with railways across the whole Europe. In many places these facts led to considerations "What will we do with railways". The decrease ofvolume of railway transported freights in many countries of Europe was very large (over 20% during the last 20 years). This resulted the large freight stations located in the big cities were no longer needed. In many places, these areas were used for next urban and city development but many of them are still unused and we may called them railway brownfields. These brownfields however are very specific. Their specifics result from many factors but most important one is that these structures are linear (in the case of tracks) or designed for special purpose (in the case of buildings).
