Structure-soil interaction of buried arch bridges
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Arch is one of the oldest structural shapes, the mankind has invented. Already the Roman Empire constructed a large number of stone arch bridges on roads or aqueducts, many of which survived to present. Arch bridges were constructed throughout the medieval times; some of them represent masterpieces of the world's cultural heritage. Buried arch bridges are built on both roads and railways, both as underbridges or overbridges. Due to low construction costs, great durability and endurance, they are favoredby contractors and investors. This paper discusses the structure-soil interaction of buried arch bridges. On the basis of an analytical derivation which is developed first, a method of centre-line optimization of buried arch bridges is proposed and boundaries of this approach discussed. Then a specific example is studied, where the beneficiary effect of the proposed method is showed. Finally, the effect of construction phases is studied.
