Czech Western Railway, assets and Renewal Possibilities
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Czech Western Railway is valuable and well-preserved railway project. It is a showcase of international cooperation both in construction and planning. Its important asset is the character of the buildings designed by architect Ignac Rechka who participated in planning of core projects in Prague and in Pilsen and designed four main types of railway station buildings that can be found along the Czech Western Railway. Similar typization is characteristic for other objects like waiting rooms, gatehouses and warehouses. It is important to further preserve mentioned assets and the character of the railway. Especially now, when the buildings are losing their primary function due to railway modernization, management centralization and the fact that steam locomotives are no longer in operation. Abandoned objects have large development potential for adjacent municipalities, profiting from their position, bindings to the local infrastructure and their internal arrangement. More inspiration for future use of these objects can be sought among projects realized in the Czech Republic and abroad.
