Asphalt Mixtures that Dissipate Energy
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The effort to design cost-effective and high-quality pavements has led to the need for innovation in the design of road construction materials. One such innovation concerns the procedures that are used to analyze the mechanical and physical properties of these materials. This paper describes the results of an ongoing project entitled „Asphalt Mixtures Dissipating Energy", presenting the laboratory measured results of conventionally produced asphalt mixtures. The susceptibility of asphalt mixtures to permanent deformation was evaluated by Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test and Uniaxial Shear Test. A Four Point Bending Beam test was used to analyze the fatigue resistance of asphalt mixtures and Thermal Stress Restrained Specimen Test was used to determine low temperature cracking susceptibility. The paper summarizes the principles used to develop new types of asphalt mixtures that, when loaded by traffic, better dissipate energy. The main objective of the research project is to develop new asphalt mixtures that, in-situ, prevent occurrence of rutting on the pavement. Thus, the core part of the project focuses on the analysis of linear viscoelastic behavior related to pavement permanent deformation.
