Bez pochopení autentických technik a bez schopnosti k nim správně přistupovat, by nebylo možné dosáhnout kvalitní, respektující obnovy.

Have you ever wondered how the rich decorations that we still admire today in castle halls, theater stages, and palace facades were created? What techniques and skills were behind their impressive appearance, and what craftsmanship was required to create them? This publication focuses on the crafts and decorative techniques that complete the look of the interiors and exteriors of historic buildings. In the case of craft skills associated with specific surface and material treatments, this task is even more complex. Without an understanding of authentic techniques and the ability to apply them correctly, it would not be possible to achieve a high-quality, respectful restoration. The aim of the publication is to deepen knowledge and awareness of selected traditional building crafts and to bring them closer to all those involved in the process of monument restoration – from experts to students and those interested in cultural heritage. The text should serve to deepen understanding of their significance and offer a theoretical background as well as practical examples from workshops that took place during the 5th annual Crafts Day at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague. Each of the seven crafts presented here is accompanied by an overview of its historical development, the techniques used, and the materials employed.
