Nitriding and CrN-coating of P/M Cr-V Cold Work Tool Steel - Wear Behaviour and Related Characteristics
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Specimens made from P/M Vanadis 6 cold work tool steel were heat processed to 60 HRC, plasma nitrided and PVD CrN-coated. The microstructure of duplex-coated substrate, adhesion of PVD - coatings, their chemistry and phase constitution and influence of pre-nitriding on adhesive/abrasive wear resistance were investigated. Worn surfaces were subjected to the fractographical analysis to determine the wear mechanism of coatings. Beneficial effect of the nitriding on the adhesion of CrN-layer and also on thewear resistance of layered tool steel was clearly evident, particularly for the heavily loaded specimens. This was attributed to a supporting effect of harder nitrided inter - layer. On the other hand, the scattering of the results was too large. The samples, including those processed at the same conditions and batches, differ one from each other in the adhesion of PVD-overlay on nitrided substrate which results in a different wear resistance and wear mechanism also.
