This article is introducing the project of UL-39, an ultralight aircraft with a ducted fan, and some of the problems that arose in the course of its development. Several problems with the design of such a non- traditional aircraft are mentioned, such asthe design of the airframe, or the design of the propulsion unit. Mostly the article concentrates on the description of the specific procedure of determination of basic thrust characteristics of this aircraft of an unusual conception as well as on experimental determination of such characteristics. Further options of applying the experience gained during the work and further focus of the works on this issue are outlined at the end of this article.
