This paper investigates the most important features of the system imbalance needed for appropriate and accurate forecast. At first, there is described time series of the system imbalance, where relevant descriptive statistics are presented. In the middlepart, the seasonal pattern of the system imbalance is described. There is shown that the seasonal pattern exists and some hours of the day have very likely positive (or negative) system imbalance. Then the connection of the electricity spot price and the system imbalance is verified and there is a proof of link between extreme spot prices and the positive (for negative and small spot price) and negative (for high positive spot prices) system imbalance.
