Preliminary Results of Operational Ventilation of the Blanka Tunnel Complex During Trial Operation

The tunnel complex Blanka, a part of the Prague City Ring Road, was open to traffic and put into the trial operation in September 2015. It is the longest road tunnel in the Czech Republic and the longest city road tunnel in Central Europe with the total length of more than 6 km. The automatic control system of the operational ventilation – Expert system is evaluated and tested during the one year trial operation. The Expert system ensures startup of individual ventilation devices (jet fans, main axial fans in ventilation machine rooms and dampers) in order to ensure desired quality of indoor environment and to minimize car exhaust pollution from exit tunnel junctions to reduce pollution of the surroundings of the tunnel. The Expert system optimizes total power of all ventilation devices, which can save millions CZK per year in electricity bills. This paper presents preliminary results of the operational ventilation of the Blanka tunnel during the current trial operation.
