The scope, programme, and achievements of the 14th Radiochemical conference are listed. The topics discussed in the following conference sessions are briefly reviewed: "Radionuclides in the Environment, Radioecology", "Nuclear Analytical Methods", "Chemistry of Actinides and Transactinides", "Ionising Radiation in Science, Technology and Preservation of the Cultural Heritage", "Production and Application of Radionuclides", "Separation Methods, Speciation", "Chemistry of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle, Radiochemical Problems in the Nuclear Waste Management", and "Nuclear Methods in Medicine, Radiopharmaceuticals, and Radiodiagnostics". As a results of the general discussion on the future of nuclear chemistry, a declaration "General statement on the current position of nuclear- and radiochemistry" was approved. In this declaration the Conference participants strove to attract the attention of politicians, information media, and general public to the contributions of nuclear chemistry.
