Les villes portuaires offrent un tr?s bon exemple de changement de perspective par la durabilité. Jadis source de richesse et noyau de la ville, le port historique se déconnecte de la ville, devient un " no man's land " voire un frein au développement, suite ? la réorganisation économique entraînée par la mondialisation. L'urbanisme durable d'aujourd'hui a donné de nombreux exemples réussis d'une recomposition portuaire. Dunkerque s'y inscrit bien : si de nombreux conflits d'intér?ts ont eu et ont encore lieu sur son territoire, de grands projets urbains comme Neptune et le Grand Large, ainsi que de nouvelles formes de coopération ont su créer de nouveaux équipements et composer de nouveaux territoires.

Port cities offer a very pertinent example of change of prospect through the aspects of sustainable development. Formerly source of richness and core of the city, the historical port is nowadays disconnected from the city, became a "no man's land", evena brake for the city development, which followed the economic reorganization pulled by globalization. Today's sustainable urban planning has already given many successful examples of a harbour urban recomposition. Dunkerque registered there well: many conflicts of interests took and still take place on its territory, but, major urban projects like Neptune and Grand Large, as new forms of cooperation, could create there new urban equipment and compose new urban territories.
