Assessment of Compressive Strength of Historic Masonry Using In-situ Measurements
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Masonry structures have been built by various techniques using different materials, properties of which exhibit a considerable scatter dependent on periods of construction and on region-specific conditions. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to obtain case specific information on properties of existing masonry structures. Focusing on heritage structures, various non-destructive tests (NDTs) and minor-destructive techniques are commonly applied, while application of destructive testing should be minimized. The contribution is based on 14 historic stone and clay brick masonry structures that were built in the period from the l 7th to 20th century. For each building, results obtained by two NDTs are verified by destructive tests (DTs) of masonry units; for mortar strength NDTs are available only. lt is shown that the use of NDTs without calibration by DTs cannot be recommended for historic masonry. The calibration of NDTs by at least three DTs improves significantly estimates of masonry compressive strength.
