Objectives Characteristic of homo economicus consists in rational maximization of benefit and minimization of cost. Rational cost - benefit model does not cover individual economic behavior as a whole. Alternative model of meaningful economic behavior issubmitted covering menmtal processes people typically use in production, distribution, exchange and consumption. Method meaningfulness is specified as relation between cognitive, emotional, and self - control meanings of economic behavior on one side, and tehir personal sense on the other side. The extent of meaning - sense interpenetration is ascertained. Results Suitability of "meaning - sense" method method for covering bulk of economic beliefs and their interpretation is demonstrated by secondary analysis of two researches (N = 1793 and N = 503)concerning opinions of Czech citizens on the life in achievement society.
