Opportunities and threats of the development of Industry 4.0 from the perspective of employees

The development of Industry 4.0 drives changes in traditional ways of employment and evokes new requirements on employees. The developing automation and robotization of manufacturing processes leads to the replacement of manual and routine jobs, but at the same time it increases the demand for high-skilled people. The paper analysis the results of the authors' questionnaire survey on the view of addressed Czech employees on Industry 4.0 with the aim to answer how they perceive opportunities and threats of the development of Industry 4.0 in terms of their employment and employability. The survey was carried out from February to June 2020. The respondents included Czech male and female employees of different industrial professions and different ages. The answers were obtained from 200 respondents. The data analysis methods included the calculation of relative frequencies and the evaluation of the dependence of responses on age of respondents. The results showed that addressed employees are not concerned about losing their jobs due to the development of Industry 4.0, however they are aware of the fact that their future employability is determined by their skills, including the learning skills.
