Plasma Treatment of the Surfaces
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Plasma is a state of matter and is naturally present in the universe however, can be generated in the laboratory conditions as well. Specific gas is applied into the gas chamber and ionized by electrical, chemical or other source of energy which results in the production of highly reactive species. Produced species can subsequently alter the surface properties of the materials. Moreover, the material under the surface is left unaltered. In biomedical use plasma sterilization after UV treatment of the surface is used. Plasma polymerisation is used for the production of thin polymer layer on the surface of the material. Surface activation by plasma changes the chemical functional groups on the surface of the treated material in dependence on the used gas. For example, highly reactive gas is argon, oxygen plasma treatment results in improved hydrophilicity of the surface and nitrogen mainly improved biocompatibility. Plasma treatment is a relatively new and interesting method that is commonly used to alter surface properties of different materials by formed reactive species.
