Post-stroke telerehabilitation using mirror therapy in virtual reality
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Stroke is the third leading cause of disability globally. Aging population means people are living longer, but with more disability. Moreover, COVID-19lockdowns drastically reduce direct access to care. These factors combined put a lot of stress on rehabilitation clinics. Telerehabilitation is rapidly advancing possibilities of distant care using latest technology, but there is a need for cost-effective and easy to use systems. We are developing software for post-stroke hand telerehabilitation using an affordable hand tracking sensor. Our software applies a digital form of mirror therapy – a visual feedback-based therapy for one-sided disability, that uses the illusion of actively moving your disabled limb by looking at the mirror image of moving your unaffected hand. We focus on making the software simple to use for the therapists and fun to use for thepatients, because we recognize the importance of long term consistency in rehabilitation care. The software is able to record and play back accurate movements of hands, which can be used by therapists to create personalized sets of hand movement exercises. For patients, it provides an interactive way to keep rehabilitating at home without having to visit a clinic and it provides therapists with a way to scale up individualized therapy for many patients at once.
