Occurence of mercury in wild mushrooms

The aim of this work was to evaluate the mercury content of edible mushrooms. The basidiocarps of mushrooms belong to significant accumulators of toxic elements. The samples of basidiocarps of mushrooms were taken from two localities. They were dried andafter drying the basidiorocarps were mineralized in situ and analysed on the apparatus AMA 254 by the method of atomic absorption spectrometry. The highest contents of mercury were at genus Boletus and Macrolepiota. The lowest concentrations of mercurywere determined in commercially grown mushrooms. When comparing both localities, no statistical significance in mercury content was shown in most basidiocarps of mushrooms and an interesting fact is that the influence of year plays a minimal part. Accumulation of mercury by basidiocarps of particular kinds of mushrooms is given above all by genetic dispositions.
