Colloidal Polyaniline Dispersions Stabilized with Biopolymers
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Although the applications of polyaniline (PANI) are on the rise, they are limited by its limited solubility in aqueous media. One of possible approaches how to cope with this challenge is preparation of conducting PANI colloids, which can be synthetized by oxidation of aniline hydrochloride with ammonium persulfate in presence of suitable steric stabilizer. In this work colloidal PANI dispersions have been prepared in presence of two biocompatible polysaccharides as stabilizers, sodium hyaluronate or chitosan, and their physicochemical and biological properties in terms of cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity have been determined. Tests performed on mouse embryonic fibroblast cell lines (NIH/3T3) using an MTT assay showed that cytotoxicity of colloids depends both on concentration of PANI and concentration of stabilizer in the sample, and is more notable for hyaluronate samples. Antibacterial effect against gram-positive S. Aureus and gram-negative E. Coli was observed for both types of samples. For PANI-chitosan, an inherent antibacterial activity of the polysaccharide was further increased by presence of PANI. The prepared colloids can be utilized in formation of flexible conducting surfaces coming in contact with cells and tissues.
