Polyaniline (PANI) belongs to a group of conducting polymers. Due to its properties PANI has become an attractive polymer for biological applications. Although the biological applications of PANI are on the rise, they are rather limited by its insolubility in aqueous media. Preparation of conducting PANI colloidal dispersions synthesized in presence of stabilizers is one of the possible solutions how to cope with this shortcoming. Various polymers have been tested as the stabilizers, of which biocompatible and biodegradable polysaccharides are promising candidates. The aim of present research was therefore to prepare colloidal PANI dispersion in presence of sodium hyaluronate (HA) or chitosan (CH), and determine their physicochemical and biological properties in terms of cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity.
