The determinants of clinical practice from the perspective of students of nursing
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Clinical training has always been an important part of the nursing education. Clinical practice performed in the natural clinical environment comprises a larger part of the nursing education curriculum. Yet students find clinical environment to be the most stressful and anxiety producing aspect of their nursing studies. Stress and anxiety as the most common reaction to stress may have a negative impact on students' productivity while leading to development of poor coping mechanisms which further effects their attitude to nursing in general and their future professionalization. Generally speaking, each of the surveyed nursing students (without previous secondary medical education) found themselves in a situation in which they felt stress or anxiety during their clinical practice. It always depends on the individual abilities of the individual to cope with such a stressful situation. Some manage to overcome the state, yet for some their own interventions have failed and their situation adversely affected their performance, evaluation and self-evaluation. In order to successfully complete one's nursing studies, it is necessary to master the nursing practice, besides the theoretical disciplines. It is essential for the institutions preparing students for their profession to acknowledge the existence of stress strain and anxiety in students in practical training and to tackle this issue as it deserves attention or intervention, if deemed necessary.
