Spectral Properties of Selected Indolylbenzoxazinones

A series of 3,1-benzoxazin-4-ones was prepared and their electronic spectra were studied. The synthetic strategy was different to the previously described one and was based on Fischer indolisation of N-(?-ketoacyl)anthranilic acids. The spectral properties of prepared 2-(indol-2-yl)-1,3-benzoxazin-4-ones and one related naphtho[1,2-d][1,3]oxazin-4-one derivative were studied using UV-VIS spectroscopy. The latter absorbs in the visible region of the spectra and can be considered as yellow dye. Moreover,fluorescence of all compounds under investigation was observed, which was then studied by fluorimetry. This study has a potential in discovery of novel fluorophores, dyes and molecular devices (e.g., molecular switches).
