Colloidal polyaniline dispersions: Antibacterial activity, cytotoxicity and neutrophil oxidative burst
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The preparation of conducting polyaniline colloids is one of possible approaches to overcome the problems with poor polyaniline solubility, which limits its application in biomedicine. In the study, a colloidal polyaniline dispersion, employing poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) as a steric stabilizer, was prepared and characterized. Cytotoxicity (HaCaT and NIH/3T3 cell lines), antibacterial activity (B. cereus, S. aureus, P. aureginosa and E. coli), and human neutrophil oxidative burst tests were performed for the first time on the dispersion with the particle size of 226.5 ? 0.5 nm. The antibacterial effect of colloidal polyaniline was most pronounced against B. cereus and E. coli, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 3500 ?g mL-1. According to the annexin/propidium iodide assay, the cytotoxicity threshold was of around 150 ?g mL-1. The neutrophil oxidative burst test then showed that colloidal polyaniline, in concentrations < 150 ?g mL-1, was not able to stimulate the production of reac
