A computational model for evaluating the interaural disparities using coincidence detection
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In mammals, spatial hearing is supported by evaluation of two types of binaural disparities, interaural time difference (ITD) and interaural level difference (ILD), that is performed by auditory neurons in the superior olivary complex. Using a complex auditory model which includes a binaural evaluation stage, the output of binaural neurons from medial and lateral superior olive is simulated and quantitatively compared with available experimental data. Both binaural disparities are evaluated using detection of coincidence of spikes arriving from the two channels; in case of ITD, the coincidence of two excitatory spikes is detected, in case of ILD, the coincidence of one excitatory and one inhibitory spike is detected. It is shown that using a physiologically realistic set of parameters, evaluation of both ITD and ILD based on coincidence detection is capable of reproducing the observed neuronal reponses. Furthermore, the model is shown to qualitatively reproduce the justnoticeable diffe
