The goal of the paper is to introduce the development of the wage differences between men and women in specific countries, and to find out the functionality between the gender wage gap and GDP per capita (computed as PPP). The authors place two hypotheses: the first one says that we expect closer wage gap between men and women in countries that traditionally push accent on the equal chances of men and women wages included. Therefore we split the selected countries into 4 groups ? Nordic countries, the rest of the EU-15, new member states EU-10, and Bulgaria and Romania. The authors expect that in Nordic countries and in the rest of EU-15 countries would be the wage gap closer than in the new EU member states (or transition countries). The second hypothesis goes to find out the functionality between the gender wage gap and the level of per capita income.
