TN02000012/10-V3 – Analysis of the basis for setting limits while respecting the legislative environment

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

This research report (Output No.3) summarises information obtained from a study of national and international legislative requirements, conditions of acceptability, and the release and disposal of radioactive waste/materials from nuclear power plant operations (nuclear facilities). This analysis is part of a broader study on optimising radiation exposure in various radioactive waste management approaches, with a focus on the procedures and methods proposed in subproject TN02000012/010 DP_05_01. In addition to describing the Czech legislative framework, the output provides an overview of international legislative requirements and recommendations relating to radioactive waste management. These include relevant EURATOM Council directives, IAEA and NEA/OECD guidelines and recommendations, among others. Particular regard is given to the release of radioactive materials and waste into the environment, as well as their possible recycling and reuse. Furthermore, it briefly describes the differences in the implementation of international regulatory requirements into the national legislative frameworks of various EU member states and non-EU countries, providing specific examples of clearance/exemption/release levels. Finally, the main obstacles relating to existing regulatory and legislative requirements that hinder or prevent the wider adoption of practices based on the circular economy in the field of radioactive waste management have been identified.
