Prehistoric and historical glass in the Czech Republic. The continuity of the dialogue between archaeology and archaeometry
Anotace anglicky
The subject of the proposed project is the archaeological and archaeometric study of glass. Analyses of the chemical composition of glass objects from Bohemia and selected assemblages from Moravia and Bavaria will expand the knowledge of the soda-lime glasses in the late prehistory and the Early Middle Ages and potassium glasses in the High Middle Ages and the Early Modern period. The project will also provide a better recognition of the spectrum of chemical types of glass in the Early Modern period in relation to the typology and function of artefacts. A comparison of archaeometric and archaeological information will aim at understanding the technological and cultural changes in glass production, products themselves, and the identification of main trends in the processing of glass. This will allow mapping of broader socio-economic contexts within central Europe in individual periods. In addition, the project also includes the modernisation of the Vitrea database, the main tool for storing and sharing scientific knowledge in this field.
